Cochran Firm sending Jackson High students to see “Selma”

Students from Maynard Jackson High School when get a chance to see the movie “Selma” on Thursday, thanks to the law firm founded by the late Johnnie Cochran.

The students will also participate in a social media campaign highlighting their thoughts on current social justice issues. Local television personality and Cochran’s daughter, Tiffany Cochran, will emcee a 15-minute, pre-movie presentation.

The movie, “Selma” traces the work done by Martin Luther King Jr., and others – including locals Andrew Young, C.T. Vivian, James Orange and Ralph David Abernathy - to secure voting rights for African Americans in the United States. The movie was nominated for Best Picture and won an Academy Award for Best Song.

The students are scheduled to see the movie at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Landmark Theatres in Midtown.
