The Cochran Firm Atlanta Anticipating Justice in Tomorrow’s Re-Indictment of Former APD Officer James Burns

Tomorrow a Fulton County Grand Jury will convene to decide whether or not to indict former Atlanta Police Officer James Burns in the unlawful killing of Caine Rogers. Rogers was shot in the head on June 22, 2016 on Monroe Place in Midtown Atlanta. Two months after the tragic shooting, on August 31, another Fulton County Grand Jury convened and indicted Burns but the indictment was dismissed and the district attorney decided to seek re-indictment.
“On behalf of the family of Caine Rogers we are encouraged and hopeful and look forward to justice being served tomorrow,” said Shean Williams, Partner with The Cochran Firm Atlanta.
“We are pleased the District Attorney is moving forward with the re-indictment of former APD Officer James Burns. The evidence has not changed: the video and eyewitnesses prove that the killing of Caine Rogers was not justified and was not reasonable. The overwhelming evidence also shows that Caine Rogers was unarmed and was not posing a threat to anyone, especially former Officer Burns. Moreover, APD continues to violate its own policies by shooting at moving vehicles such was evident Monday afternoon in the shooting at the Shops at Buckhead. Fortunately no one was injured in that incident,” said Jane Lamberti, Senior Partner, The Cochran Firm Atlanta.
The family will join Cochran Firm Atlanta attorneys tomorrow as we wait for word from this Grand Jury.
